CELIS Board of Trustees
CELIS is supported by an independent Board of Trustees (Verwaltungsbeirat) established under its statutes. Trustees advise and support the Directors on strategy and long‑term sustainability and provide consent on a defined set of major commitments.
Trustees serve in an honorary capacity and are bound by strict conflict‑of‑interest and confidentiality standards. The Board does not influence CELIS’s research conclusions, publications, speaker line‑ups, or policy positions; editorial direction remains solely with the Institute’s Directors.

The Board of Trustees (Verwaltungsbeirat) serves in a stewardship role. It:
- advises and supports the Executive Director and other Directors on CELIS’s strategic direction and long‑term sustainability;
- provides consent on a defined set of major organisational commitments (including significant structural changes, certain acquisitions/disposals, major investments, and other matters specified in the statutes);
- helps protect CELIS’s independence through conflict‑of‑interest discipline, transparency standards, and long‑term institutional safeguarding.
What the Board does
What the Board does not do
The Board does not manage day‑to‑day operations. It does not influence CELIS’s research conclusions, publications, event agendas, speaker line‑ups, or any institutional policy positions. CELIS’s editorial direction and programming decisions remain solely with the Institute’s Directors.
Trustees are nominated by the Board of Trustees and appointed by the shareholders’ meeting for fixed terms and serve in an honorary capacity. Trustees are chosen for outstanding achievement and integrity across law, policy, public service, academia, philanthropy, and related fields—and for their commitment to CELIS’s core values: neutrality, non‑partisanship, and excellence.
