Yesterday, on 1st September 2022, the Second Annual Report on the screening of foreign direct investments into the Union has been published by the European Commission (EC). The report contains besides the most recent data on foreign direct investment inflows into the EU mainly an overview of the legislative developments and activities in the Member States in 2021. In its official press release, the EC concludes that the FDI regulation which entered into full application in October 2020 has worked quickly and efficiently preventing posing security risks while at the same time not restricting the flow of foreign investment.
The report is accompanied by a report on the Export Controls Regulation which entered into force in September 2021 and covers mainly dual-use exports, i.e. items that may be used for civilian and military purposes.
